Sheriffs Deputy drunken shenanigans…

Just read of an unusual DUI case involving an off-duty Sheriffs Deputy:

Charlotte Moore, 36, a jail deputy, was off duty driving her 2004 Pontiac Grand Am on Saturday when she was pulled over by her husband, Elko County Sheriffs Deputy Mike Moore, a police report said.

In two separate accounts of the incident, Mike Moore indicated she initially was pulled over for either speeding or making an illegal turn.

She allegedly left before being administered a portable breathalyzer test, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.

Now this case is of interest to me for several reasons. First, obviously, as a sheriffs deputy who had probably jailed many inebriated drivers, she should have known better than to drink and drive herself. But the other more interesting point for me was that her husband actually pulled her over twice, and allowed her to be arrested for DUI.

Now I can only speculate about how strong their relationship is, but things like this have a tendency to become points of embitterment. How many people, given the opportunity, would have simply taken the easy route, covered it up, taken the wife home and let her sleep it off? Maybe he had a choice and maybe he didn’t. But if he did have that option, and chose to take this route, I think he did the right thing, and only hope that his integrity is rewarded.

Though I have to admit that in this day and age, I doubt that it will…

The blind driving the dumb…

The same blind man I blogged about earlier has been caught behind the wheel yet again:

“We arrested the same blind man driving his car again on Saturday in the town of Torvandi, near Tartu (in southern Estonia),” said Marge Kohtla, a spokeswoman for Tartu police district. – [Yahoo/AP]

What can I say. This guy must really really have a thing about driving. I suppose the insignificant little fact that he cannot see doesn’t seem to have had much influence in the decision making process. Or he was too inebriated to even care.

This article illustrates what I consider the worst side effect of drinking. Severely impaired judgement. The bad reflexes, jacked up motor control, all these things are bad. But the worst is your inability to realize that you are, for all intents and purposes, JUBAR. But you don’t need to take my word for it. Just ask the blind man…

Booty call, or the cat gets it…

This world has got some seriously jacked-up people folks:

Caswell was angry at his ex-girlfriend for not coming to his house Friday night. So Caswell drugged her cat “Romeo” with human medication and then castrated it with a box cutter. – [Yahoo/AP]

What kind of a man castrates his ex-girlfriends cat for being denied a booty call? I actually cringed just reading the article…

OK, now show the nice police officer your drugs…

For the life of me I cannot understand some of the things I hear people do:

A woman was arrested after she called police to help “get her money back” after she was unhappy with the crack cocaine she purchased.

Juanita Marie Jones, 53, called Rochelle Police late Thursday night after she purchased what she thought was a $20 piece of crack cocaine, according to police reports. – [Yahoo/AP]

One can only speculate about what this lady was thinking. Did she not realize that she would have to admit to purchasing a controlled substance? Did she think her crime would be overlooked because she filed the complaint?

And what’s even more interesting is I have seen at least two episodes of the “COPS” TV show where other people did exactly the same thing. They got ripped off, or stolen from by their own crack dealer, and would proceed to call the police to resolve the “issue”.

Just a public service announcement people: Drugs are bad mmmkay…?

They make you stupid…

Only YOU can prevent Illegal Immigration…

Republican presidential candidate and former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani made what i thought was a rather bold statement:

“We can end illegal immigration. I promise you, we can end illegal immigration,” the former New York mayor said at a community center — the first of the day’s two stops in this early voting state.

Giuliani said he would require a uniform identification card for foreign workers and students and create a central database to track the legal status of visitors to the country. He told the crowd of more than 300 that 12 million immigrants have entered the country illegally.

“That’s a lot of people to walk over your border without being identified,” he said. – [Yahoo/AP]

Ok so I have one question. Has he seen the size of our borders lately? It isn’t exactly a short stretch of barbed wire fencing. You know, anyone who has successfully been mayor of NY has to have something going for them. But his recent actions have cast a serious shadow on opinion of both his competency and honesty. If it were so easy to stop illegal immigration, it would have been done already.

Instead, it appears he will simply be one of those people who employ sweeping, indiscriminate, invasive and ultimately useless legislation that attack everything but the source of the problem, just like everyone else, especially the current administration.

I mean, the database idea is pointless because by definition, we don’t have any info on illegal immigrants. They don’t exactly register with the authorities after jumping the fence.
And as I pointed out earlier, America has a lot of border ground to cover, it’s not such an easy task to watch all of it. I don’t see where he has come forward with a good solution for anything…

The only way to stop illegal immigration is if we stop hiring illegal immigrants. Stop giving them jobs. Stop giving them benefits. Stop making it worth their while to cross the border. I don’t think that is going to happen. Nor do I necessarily think it should. They have become a significant part of our workforce. I think we need to figure out a way to integrate the ones that are here, and then provide some sort of incentive for new immigrants to do migrate legally. Because clearly, prohibition isn’t working…

And before you say “Grant them amnesty? Give them an incentive? Preposterous!” think about this. How much of your tax dollars is already currently going to giving illegal immigrants health care? Do you want them to be able to put their share of that cost back into the tax pool? Or do you want to just keep carrying their share of the economic burden for them?
